This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative and ambitious individual to play an important role in supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities to reach their full potential.

We are looking for an excellent practitioner with QTS and specialist SEND experience, to lead teaching and learning within our specialist centre, supporting up to 16 pupils who have moderate learning needs and/or speech and language needs; whilst helping to support and shape the development of the SEND provision within the school.   Excellent planning, organisational, communication and interpersonal skills are required, together with a flexible, team focussed approach.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience of SEND/SEND provision in mainstream and and/or specialist provisions.
  • Proven experience of teaching pupils with SEN and of delivering/ creating a personalised multi-sensory curriculum either in special or an additionally resourced provision setting.
  • Experience of teaching KS2 pupils with SEN (ideally ASD/SLCN) in special or resourced provision in the UK including knowledge of ‘Engagement Model’ assessment framework.
  • Knowledge of, or skills in using specialist communication systems e.g. Makaton, PECs, colourful semantics etc.
  • A commitment and passion for inclusive education along with the ability to use multiple strategies to maximise achievement and effectively manage a variety of pupil behaviours in a positive way.
  • Ideally some further training linked to ASD, SEND, speech and language, Structured teaching (SPELL/TEACCH)
  • Experience of teaching phonics, (we use Little Wandle SEND programme) or willingness to train prior to commencing role
  • The drive and proactiveness to support and engage with shaping the development of the SEND provision within the school.
