Clerk to the Local Governing Bodies
29 hours per week, 39 weeks per annum, term time only
Actual salary will be from £22,420 p.a.
Includes attendance at evening /morning meetings

If you think you can help our Local Governors fulfil their role in providing focused governance, monitoring key performance indicators and acting as a critical friend to the Headteachers, whilst providing challenge where appropriate, we would love to hear from you.

We are a small Multi Academy Trust with three schools, and the Clerk will play a pivotal role in the smooth and efficient functioning of the Local Governing Bodies (LGBs), liaising regularly with our Governance Professional.  As well as offering advice and guidance on all aspects of governance you will ensure the efficient functioning of the LGBs by providing:

  • Administrative and organisational support, including convening and attending meetings and taking minutes.
  • Guidance to ensure that the LGBs work in compliance with the appropriate legal and regulatory framework and understands the potential consequences for non-compliance.
  • Effective communication.
  • Advice on procedural matters relating to the operation of the LGBs.

If this role appeals to you, we are looking for someone who can commit to attending 18 Local Governing Body meetings per year, plus some additional meetings.  We anticipate approximately 24 hours will worked as ‘core’ hours plus attendance at meetings which are planned in advance and held early evening or mornings, during term time only.  The current full time equivalent salary range for this role is £32,351 - £37,124.  

The ideal candidate:

  • Will be able to work independently and is an excellent time manager;
  • can communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
  • has knowledge of ensuring strategic direction;
  • is able to challenge and provide effective guidance and support; and
  • will have attended or is willing to make a commitment to participate in the NGA’s Level 3 Certificate in the clerking of school and academy governing boards.
